Polished black leather spine and corners over darkened marbled boards. Smooth spine with gilt banding and gilt title: "Milton". Original grey endpapers. Engraved portrait frontis, facing an engraved title-page (both soiled and creased). Followed by a printed title-page. Colophon to verso of printed title-page: "Glasgow: Andrew & John M. Duncan, Printers to the University". Clear English text on lightly toned paper, just a few creased edges and early inked doodles. VG.

In the original wallet-style (wrap-round) leather binding. Dark green morocco. All page edges gilt (rubbed). Plain pale yellow endpapers. Title creased but complete. A well preserved little book. ** "Small Rain Upon the Tender Herb, belongs to the best-loved miniature books and was obviously much treasured by our Victorian Ancestors. The first edition appeared in the early 1830's and many subsequent editions were printed at lest up to the 39th edition. The contents consist of short Bible extracts for every day of the year and even include the 29th of February." - Bondy p. 127.
